And no disrespect to N64's influence or overall lineup. My big system seller was Destiny as someone who was decently into Halo and Bungie at the time, which turned out to be a huge disappointment I had never really played a game with that kind of structure before and I found out first hand that it wasn't for me at all.Ĭlick to shrink.I didn't experience either of those launch years so didn't factor them in. 2014 was a godawful year for AAA gaming, I bought indie games on my laptop even though it was less powerful because they were often a lot cheaper during Steam sales. And then stuff like Puppeteer, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and BlazBlue Chrono Phantasma never came to PS4 at all. Games like GTA5, Last of Us, and Rayman Legends took a year to get ported so most people just played them on last-gen hardware. That's counting multiplats because I didn't have a gaming PC at the time. It came out in late 2013 and it took well into 2015 until it had anything I really liked a lot. The Switch's was pretty similar, but I think I have a slight preference for the totality of the Wii's lineup, and for whatever reason I don't think I actually put as much time into my Switch year 1 (Wii Sports was getting played like once a day at one point, plus I went in a lot more on Virtual Console, and in 2017 I wasn't quite as into gaming as I was 2006-2007 so I really only focused on the essentials). Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, and Super Mario Galaxy were all year 1.
